Because I've been in business so long (since 1994), I've slowly gathered a bunch of knowledge about the nitty gritty of business. I'm regularly asked questions about being in business. On this page I've started putting together all those questions & answers. Is your question not here? Send me a question & I'll see what I can do
NOTE: I am not a financial or legal expert. Everything I've learned has been through trial & error and my knowledge is very general. Please check with a certified professional before acting on financial & legal issues.
How did we start?
When I finished uni (bachelor of commerce), a girlfriend & I started our first little business Nyumba Goori Studies Consultancy on the North Coast of New South Wales. We were basically jack-of-all-trades - teaching everything, writing resources etc. When I had children, she ended up moving to Sydney but we stayed in contact and restarted our business in 2000 under the name Blakclines Publications. Blacklines has had varying success because I've been having children and occassionally "going-back-to-work" - so I've not been able to devote my full-time attention to it. This past year I start working on Blacklines full-time and my sister has just joined our team. Everything I know about business come from just learning on-the-job.
1) How do you start the business?
- do I need to get a grant?
- do I need to Trademark my business name?

As an emerging artist/entrepreneur, there are real benefits in connecting with others and sharing. There is so much great information (tips, tricks, hints, ideas, resources etc) available, that you can access to improve your business practice. Social networking or social media are two of the terms used to describe connecting/sharing that occurs using web-based technology.
Many people get overwhelmed about the volume of social networking tools and really don't know where to start. Many people also find it difficult to use the technology.

A wikepedia entry
A few definitions. BloggingWhat can blogging give your business?
Blogging can provide you -
1) with an opportunity for you to gather resources; and
2) to share your own resources/expertise.
3) a space where you can express yourself - so that others can find out about you & your product.
4) a space (or Home Base in the words of Chris Brogan) where you can create a community.
Why should you blog?
Seth Godin makes a case here for blogging.
How do I start?
a) The first place to start blogging is probably in reading other people's blogs. This will give you an idea of what a blog is (and isn't), and some of the features that are usually in a blog.
